George Perry Floyd Jr. aka “Big Floyd” was born October 14, 1974 in Fayetteville, NC. to the late George Perry and Larcenia Jones Floyd.

George was raised in Houston, Texas, where he received his education. He attended Yates High School, where he played on the basketball and football teams. Floyd was a star tight end for Yates, helping them to the 1992 state championship final game. George earned the name “gentle giant” for his quiet personality and beautiful spirit towards everyone.

George enjoyed spending time with family and friends where he was known for brightening the room with his contagious laughter and broad smile. He could always find the good in every situation that presented itself to him. George found a passion in bringing about change in communities by supporting the good work of everyone such that they can reach their fullest potential. “I’m fuh ya” is a well known coined phrase used by George to express his agreement and understanding of the topic being discussed. George was a devoted son, brother, father, and friend to many.

Looking for afresh start on life, George moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he worked as a security guard to support himself and help provide support to his daughter Gianna. It was in Minneapolis where he departed this life Monday, May 25, 2020 at 9:25 p.m. pleading for his life “I can’t breathe” by the knee of law enforcement.

George will forever be remembered for uniting the country to develop and bring about change.
